From Threads to WhatsApp: How sports organisations are making the most of Meta's platforms

In this edition of the Sports Loft podcast, Andy and Charlie are joined by Will Pithers, Strategic Partner Manager for sports at Meta. Having previously worked at City Football Group , Will helps teams, leagues, federations, athletes and creators optimise their content strategy across Meta’s platforms.
With user behaviour shifting from public feeds toward private messaging, and short-form video dominating content strategy, we wanted to get an insider’s view on best practice across Meta’s different platforms as well as somespecific examples of which sports organisations are standing out on Threads, WhatsApp Channels, Instagram etc..
Some of the topics we discuss include:
• Why short form video (ie Reels) is the key to success across both Facebook and Instagram
• How Meta is making their platform more attractive for content creators
• Why have F1 teams and drivers been so succesful in building a thriving community on threads
• How sports teams are monetising their content directly (eg with video ads on both long form content and reels) and as part of sponsorship packages
• Why providing utility and not posting too frequently has been so important for success with WhatsApp channels
• The AR opportunities for sports organisations with Meta's Orion glasses
